Healthcare startups, SMEs and multinationals to gather at novel North East biomedical event
Life science and healthcare companies from across the UK will gather in Newcastle upon Tyne next month to discuss the key strengths of the North East region and to leverage supply chain opportunities.
Hosted by Bionow, a membership organisation for the biomedical and life sciences industry in the North of England, The Life Science and Healthcare Showcase Conference will take place on 7 July 2015 at the International Centre for Life.
The programme includes informative plenary sessions featuring top industry leaders and innovators speaking on industry challenges and topical issues, as well as presentations from industry leading companies
The North of England is one of the UK’s and Europe’s largest biomedical hotspots; 20% of the UK’s biomedical companies, employment and turnover are in the North.
Moreover, comprising of 925 life science and healthcare companies, the North’s biomedical sector generates a turnover of £10.9 billion and employs over 38,000 people.
The area is home to the N8 Research Partnership (a collaboration between the eight most research-intensive universities in the north), and boasts world-leading resources in terms of investment, scientific expertise, academic research, science graduates, NHS hospitals and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities.
With over 250 subscribing members, Bionow supports business growth, competitiveness and innovation within the biomedical and life science sectors across Northern England. Its membership services add value and cost-efficiency to scientific, clinical and business operations within early stage and growth-oriented firms.
Keynote speakers at the Life Science and Healthcare Showcase Conference include Dr Mark Treherne, Chief Executive at the UKTI Life Science Organisation.
As Chief Executive at the UKTI Life Science Organisation, he leads a team of senior civil servants and sector specialists, who support overseas investment into the UK and exports from the UK from the earliest R&D collaborations through to clinical trials, commercial operations and partnerships.
