Sheffield’s Mascot Management appointed to Ponds Forge multi-million pound refurbishment

Mascot Management, a project management specialist, has won a contract to handle the multi-million pound refurbishment of Sheffield’s Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.

The company, also based in Sheffield, has been appointed project managers, quantity surveyors, and CDM Coordinator for a full refurbishment of the gym, including expansion of the free weights area and a renovation of the reception area, members changing rooms, pool changing and group changing rooms.

This is the first contract Mascot Management has been awarded by Sheffield City Trust (SCT), which is responsible for Ponds Forge and more than a dozen other sports and recreational facilities in the city.

Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, operated by not-for-profit organisation Sheffield City Trust (SCT), will install the latest fitness equipment and a new spinning studio, which will make it one of the first gyms in the country with Technogym bikes.

The current Fitness Unlimited gym is set to be expanded to make space for the new equipment and enable more people to exercise.

The new gym will feature a Wellness System and MyWellness Cloud equipment to track fitness development, Technogym apparatus and the dynamic, pressure-sensitive lighting and sound Prama system, which will bring the gym’s floors and walls to life to create an energetic and motivating atmosphere.

As well as the free weights area undergoing an expansion, a large multi-functional zone in the gym’s centre, designed to make the space more flexible, will be fitted.

Team, competition pool, and members changing areas will be re-fitted with new showers and lockers and the latter will also have a spa with sauna and steam room.

Dennis Makey, director at Mascot Management, said: “The refurbishment of Ponds Forge is an important milestone for us and we are excited to be working with SCT, which has a portfolio of high profile facilities across the city.

“This body of work will see our team utilise several of its core services working in collaboration with SCT’s design team to complete the refurbishment according to schedule and budget.”

Mascot Management, based at Sheffield’s former Wards Brewery, operates nationally and provides services including project management, construction management, quantity surveying, CDMC, cost management, watching briefs and due diligence.

Dennis added: “We are also delighted to be working on other prestigious Sheffield projects for both the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, St Lukes Hospice, the city centre student accommodation at Pearl Works and the construction management of London Court apartments on London Road, which has just completed.

“Ponds Forge is a substantial project. The gym is due to close in July and reopen in September with new gym equipment.”

Martin Crookes, head of facilities at SIV, which operates Ponds Forge on behalf of SCT, said: “The refurbishment of Ponds Forge is a huge step forward and is essential to maintain the high standard of facilities that our customers expect. We needed a project management company which has a strong track record of delivery and Mascot Management met the brief perfectly.”
