Yorkshire’s only island hotel completes £500k spa renovation

Yorkshire’s only island-based hotel has just concluded major renovation work on a new spa complex worth over £500k.

Ten new jobs were created at the Waterton Park Hotel, Wakefield, since work on the new cutting edge spa began in January.

The completion of the project follows a successful 2014/14 financial year for the hotel, which included Waterton Park record its best year ever for accommodation revenue.

The new complex, worth more than half a million pounds, also features a new dining area, reception and is set to officially celebrate its opening on July 7 after a launch that will consist of five treatment rooms and a full range of Espa treatments.

Debbie Taylor, director of the Waterton Park Hotel, said: “This is a real statement of intent for the hotel – not just the hundreds of thousands of pounds of investment, but also in the quality of this new spa. We are one of the only – if not the only – privately owned four star hotels on its own island anywhere in the UK so we need to continually build on what we have and impress our guests.

“It’s been hard work getting here, but it was worth it when the team got to test out the treatments! We enjoyed them so we’re sure our guests will. It’s another string to our bow and way of attracting more visitors and supporting local and regional tourism.”

In addition, after investing in green technology the hotel was awarded with the AA Eco Hotel of the Year Award.
