Anesco expands battery storage portfolio with second unit

National energy efficiency solutions company, Anesco, has cemented its position as the UK’s leading provider of battery storage solutions, following the installation of a second 250kWh commercial-scale unit.

The battery storage unit has been connected to an existing solar array in Berkshire. It follows the installation by Anesco of a 250kWh unit in Dorset, in September 2014, which was the first unit of its kind to be installed in the UK. With more commercial-scale units currently on order from its supply partner, BYD Company Ltd, Anesco expects to complete a further 5MWh’s of batteries by the end of 2015.

Alongside its commercial offering, Anesco’s residential battery storage units have now been made available to homeowners nationwide, following a successful trial. The 3kWp /10kWh units are G-83 certified meaning they are grid compliant and, like their commercial counterparts, are capable of capturing electricity and saving it for use when solar PV is not generating.

Adrian Pike, Anesco CEO, commented: “Demand for effective battery storage solutions, both for the commercial and residential markets, is a fast-growing area. Our three year development project with BYD has enabled us to not only deliver the latest in cutting-edge battery storage solutions to our customers, but to retain full control.”

He added: “Following the successful installation of our first commercial-scale battery storage unit nine months ago, we have now completed our second installation and have further units due to arrive this summer. The performance of our residential units has also been very positive, so we’re delighted to now offer them to homeowners across the UK.”

Anesco has a formed a three year relationship with Chinese partner BYD Company Ltd, the world’s leading manufacturer of rechargeable batteries. The three year collaboration will see the installation of the most advanced residential energy storage units currently on the market.

Adrian concluded: “What we have been able to clearly demonstrate is how solar power can work as a key part of the generation mix, with battery storage providing a solution for matching supply with demand.

“Throughout the winter months, with our first unit we secured all three TRIAD payments and released power from the solar arrays in the evening when the UK grid required it. This has enabled the solar farms to be registered as a non-intermittent generator, which is another first in the UK.
