Life insurance day arrives in the UK
Today marks the anniversary of the first life insurance policy in the UK, taken out on the life of William Gybbon on 18th June 1583.
Over 400 years on and still less than one in two British households have life insurance, despite research showing the average parent could survive just 1,078 days without their spouse’s income.
To mark the anniversary and encourage people up and down the country to protect their loved ones, online life insurance provider Beagle Street is calling for today to be Life Insurance Day – a concept that exists in the US but up until now there has been no such day in the UK.
Backing the campaign is consumer champion Jasmine Birtles, who commented: “Planning your financial future doesn’t have to be a huge and terrible task. Now that companies like Beagle Street have made it quick and easy to choose the best value life insurance for your needs, you can protect your family in the time it takes to drink a cup of tea! And now that there’s a national ‘Life Insurance Day’ there’s no excuse not to get this all-important task sorted today.”
Also supporting the day is British comedian Andy Smart, who stars in a short piece of film content giving an overview of Life Insurance Day in 60 seconds.
