This week’s Yorkshire appointments
hlw Keeble Hawson, one of Yorkshire’s largest law firms, is further strengthening its commercial and private client teams’ expertise with a series of key promotions.
Acknowledged in the latest Legal 500 and Chambers directories as a significant player across its client services, the firm has appointed seven new associates at its Sheffield offices.
They are James Alger from the commercial property team, Liz Henwood from the litigation and dispute resolution team, employment specialist Lauren Fulcher, Rebecca Coe and Lucy Wells from the clinical negligence team and Kelly Bilton and Leanne Farey from the personal injury team.

Peter White and Arran Taylor, Deloitte
Deloitte, the business advisory firm, has strengthened the senior team within its regional network by promoting two of its Yorkshire tax experts to partner.
Peter White and Arran Taylor have both been promoted from director to partner in the Deloitte Leeds office.
Peter White, who joined Deloitte in 1997 and was previously with Arthur Andersen, is part of the large financial services practice and heads up the North East Indirect Tax team, which includes 25 VAT specialists.
Arran Taylor is a partner in the Corporate Tax team and leads its Tax Management Consulting practice in the region. He has been with Deloitte for 14 years and is a graduate of Leeds University.
Andrew Coticelli, head of tax for Deloitte in the North, said: “The promotions of Peter and Arran are well-deserved. They are great assets to us and our clients, and they will help ensure Deloitte’s tax teams continue to make a significant impact in the region.”

Rebecca Kelly, Deborah Niven and Simon Tomlinson, gunnercooke
Law firm, gunnercooke, has expanded its team of senior lawyers with the appointment of three new partners in Yorkshire as part of its on-going recruitment drive.
Rebecca Kelly will be working from Leeds, with a focus on intellectual property, information technology and commercial law. She has over 14 years’ experience working with businesses both in-house and in private practice, including previous positions at Field Fisher and HLW Keeble Hawson.
Deborah Niven joins from HLW Keeble Hawson where she was Associate Solicitor. She will be based in Sheffield, bringing expertise in intellectual property, information technology and commercial law from her work at boutique IP practice Virtuoso Legal.
Simon Tomlinson has been appointed partner in the real estate and construction team. With 15 years’ experience in a range of commercial, secured lending and property-related transactions, he joins from Hamers, where he was partner, and will be based in Hull.

Benjamin Barlow, The Dog Walker
The Dog Walker, Yorkshire’s largest pet care service, is expanding its senior management team with the appointment of an assistant director.
Benjamin Barlow has worked in various office and supervisory roles before taking on his current role as a rehabilitation coach for ex-offenders. Ben is making the move to dog walking for a change of lifestyle fuelled by his passion for animals.
Ben is taking over the Ilkley area franchise and plans to expand the daily dog walks and dog and cat boarding he offers, as well as taking a leading role in the business, working alongside founder and managing director Richie Womersley.
Ben said: “I am passionate about the business and supplying such an essential service. I understand the wider impact of owning pets and their needs. I have always had pets myself and to me, they are important members of my family and I treat them as such. Looking after other people’s pets puts me in a real position of trust and this is how I will treat my client’s pets to give them every confidence that they are leaving them in the best possible hands.
“I am excited to take on this new challenge. In my role of assistant director I hope to help expand The Dog Walker’s services in the Ilkley area. And what could be better than working for yourself, doing something that you love. It’s a win/win situation for me.”
Richie Womersley, managing director of The Dog Walker, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Ben as our new assistant director. He is a passionate animal lover with a strong business background. He will bring some fresh, new ideas to the business as a whole alongside his day to day services.”
John Gray, The Sheffield College
The Sheffield College has appointed a new Marketing Director.
John Gray from Rotherham, has started in post and joins the organisation at a time when it is seeking to increase its economic impact on the city and accelerate its offer to businesses. The college’s strategic vision includes delivering more apprenticeships, and the vocational training that employers need to fill skills gaps in the City Region.
John is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, and has strong connections to the further education sector, and Sheffield. He was born in Sheffield, has worked with many organisations in the city and is a Sheffield Wednesday fan.
He was previously Assistant Principal of Marketing and Engagement at Chesterfield College, North East Derbyshire, for three-and-a-half years. Prior to that, John was Marketing Manager of the National Metals Technology Centre in Rotherham. He also spent six years as Marketing and Customer Relations Manager for Dearne Valley College, Wath upon Dearne, from 1998 to 2011. Before then he held a number of positions in leisure management.

Sophie Smith, Future Life Wealth Management
A trainee paraplanner has joined Sheffield-based Future Life Wealth Management.
Sophie Smith joins Future Life from Aviva, where she worked for three years in a support role to financial advisers. Sophie, who lives in Woodsetts, is currently studying for exams with a view to becoming a financial planner.
Future Life is based in Renishaw and offers a bespoke financial planning service to generators and receivers of wealth, such as business owners and retirees.
Jillian Thomas, managing director, who is due to become president of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce in October, said she was delighted to take Sophie on as a trainee.
She said: “As a successful firm we love to take on young people and help develop their careers. Sophie has already shown great promise and we have high hopes for her in for the future.”
Olivia Clark, Emily Bowes and Claire Pittham, Treske
Yorkshire furniture and kitchen manufacturer Treske has strengthened its team with three key appointments.
Olivia Clark, Emily Bowes and Claire Pittham have all joined Treske, as the company seeks to build on the growing demand for its products across the United Kingdom and abroad.
Olivia joins as projects and installations manager from James Brindley in Harrogate; Emily comes straight from Huddersfield University, where she studied design; and Claire, who has moved from Arlington Interiors in Leeds, after studying design at York College, joins Treske as a furniture designer.
Justin Bartlett, owner and managing director of Thirsk-based Treske, said: “These are significant appointments for us. Olivia, Emily and Claire are all excellent additions to our staff and will strengthen our design, project and installation teams.
“Their appointments come hard on the heels of the construction of a new extension and the revamping of our showrooms, which cost £200,000 and were the biggest investment in the company since it was formed 40 years ago.
“Both these appointments and our expansion reflect the growing demand for our products from across the United Kingdom and our confidence in the future, which is fuelled by the improving economic climate and the skills and commitment of our staff.”
