Hambleton’s mobile volunteer centre hits the road
The team at Volunteering Hambleton have come up with a new idea to promote the range of opportunities for volunteers across the area, using a ‘mobile volunteer centre’ which will be used to attend a range of fetes, shows and other community events throughout the year.
The new mobile centre was made possible thanks to a grant from Hambleton District Council’s Investing in Communities Fund.
‘Charlie’, as it is known, is a pre-owned caravan and has been re-painted by community volunteer, Dave Jones, using facilities provided by Ray Wilson Accident Repair Centre in Northallerton.
Charlie made its first appearance at the North Yorkshire Country Show on June 21st at Otterington Hall where Volunteering Hambleton was on hand to offer advice for would-be volunteers and also to organisations that may need voluntary help.
Its next appearance will be the Homegrown Food Festival this weekend, on Sunday June 28th.
Lizzie Clapham, Volunteering Hambleton’s co-ordinator, said: “Charlie will be a mobile base from where we can offer support and advice to individuals, organisations and businesses thinking about volunteering in the area. We were thrilled that the council was able to support us and we’re really looking forward to our first outing at North Yorkshire County Show.”
Volunteering Hambleton offers a range of advice and support services to organisations, from help with the development and promotion of volunteering and opportunities, to delivery of quality training and information designed to develop good practice in all areas of an organisation’s volunteer recruitment, support and management.
Northallerton Volunteer Centre became Volunteering Hambleton earlier this year and expanded its services to cover the whole of Hambleton, working in partnership with the Volunteer Centre in Stokesley.
