Lingfield Point saddles up for cycling challenge
STAFF, who are more used to keeping the wheels of commerce turning, had the chance to try some cycling action with a difference at Lingfield Point.
The Darlington business park lived up to its ethos of sustainability by holding a full day of fun for its 2,500 customers as part of the Love to Ride Tees Valley Cycle Challenge.
And, it wasn’t just about two wheels - one of the attractions was a six seater bike, with room for a driver too, seen here being ridden by Estate Manager, Eddie Humphries (right) and staff from FaulknerBrowns Architects.
For an extra special blend of healthiness there was also a cycle with a built in smoothie maker, as well as Lingfield Point’s Dutch bikes, which are available for free hire for customers.
Eddie said: “While the cyclists were whizzing around the business park they could see more of the site - starting at our award-winning Beehive office space and enjoying the Lingfield Lap - one of the many reasons Lingfield Point is a great place to do business.”
All businesses at Lingfield Point have been invited to take part in the Challenge – a free competition to see which organisations can get the highest percentage of their staff cycling.
To encourage participation, and boost its chances, Lingfield Point hosted a packed programme of events, organised by the Love To Ride Tees Valley Challenge in conjunction with Localmotion.
There was a free ‘Dr Bike’ session, where people could have their cycles checked over; a ‘try a bike’ session and personal travel planning to find the cheapest and greenest ways to travel to and from work.
Eddie said: “We encouraged as many people as possible to cycle our ‘Lingfield Mile’ and if they registered their ride as part of the challenge they had the chance to win some prizes.
“It was really good fun to try to ride the six seater bike, and the ready-made drink at the end of the smoothie bike ride was much appreciated!
“Here at Lingfield Point we always want to do more than just talk about sustainability and this kind of initiative helps us to practice what we preach.”
The challenge runs until June 28 and you can register at lovetoride.net/teesvalley. Prizes include a hybrid bike, spa treatments, afternoon teas and cinema tickets.
