London Square acquires Orpington NHS site for £15m

Residential developer London Square has acquired a former NHS site in Orpington for £15m.

Proposals for the 6.2 acre former residential care facility at Bassetts Campus, Broadwater Gardens, Orpington, will include a mix of houses and apartments for private sale and including affordable homes.

The locally listed Bassetts House building will be restored and converted into apartments. The proposed scheme, will focus on the creation of green spaces, retaining a number of mature trees and shrubs. Bassetts Pond will be enhanced and developed to provide an improved habitat for wildlife.

Brian Betsy, Managing Director of London Square, said: “Bassetts Campus is an attractive site and will provide a site in an excellent location for new homes in a new community where people will want to live, reflecting the aim of previous owners NHS Property Services to contribute to land supply for housing in Greater London.

“As our second site in the London borough of Bromley, we have recognised the strength of the location to commuters working in the capital, with excellent transport links into the City and the West End, and its appeal to families, young professionals and downsizers.”

Andrew Strange, NHS Property Services’ Head of Planning and Development, said: “The sale of Bassetts Campus to London Square has the potential to bring an empty site and a locally important building back into use, as well as providing a number of homes in response to London’s recognised need for housing.”

Orpington is a key commuter spot in Zone 6, with direct trains running into London Cannon Street, London Victoria and London Charing Cross in around 30 minutes. The mix of highly rated state and independent schools in the area also makes it a popular destination for families.

London Square made the £25m acquisition of Hayes Court on West Common Road, Hayes BR2, earlier this year, comprising a Grade II listed office building for conversion into eight residential apartments with a collection of nine mews houses and six detached houses built in the grounds.
