Quorum Business Park launches Triathlon Club

A new triathlon club has been launched by Quorum Business Park with its members gearing up to take part in a series of competitions in the region.

The club has kicked off its season with training for the annual QE2 Sprint Triathlon organised by Vo2 Max Racing Events at QE2 Country Park in Ashington in July, the first event of its kind in the UK to be awarded a Two Star Mark quality from the British Triathlon Federation.

Competitors will swim 750m in the 16 hectare lake, cycle 24km along the Northumbrian coastline, and run 6km in the surrounding woodland.

The Quorum Triathlon Club meets regularly, and the business park support members to develop their running, swimming and cycling training by offering incentives such as supplying kit, free training sessions, and discounts with local suppliers in preparation for a series of events throughout the summer.

To get triathlon-ready, the club has training sessions every Thursday evening with Tri4U, a company providing high quality triathlon coaching in Northumberland. Groups meet from May till September through the triathlon season and training sessions include swimming, cycling and running, expert advice on nutrition, training tips and event preparation.

Newly opened Pure Gym at Quorum Business Park gives triathlon club members another option when they’re planning their training schedules with cycle classes, specialist indoor training bikes, a running club and advice and expert knowledge of Pure Gym’s personal trainers.

Quorum Business Park Triathlon Club Coordinator, Laura Barber said: “Training for a triathlon is a big challenge so having the support of a club, coaches and appropriate facilities helps members achieve their goal.

“Members of Quorum’s Triathlon Club qualify for a special discount on Vo2 Max racing events and their first outdoor swim session is free of charge. Members also receive free training support and triathlon equipment, including specialised triathlon laces and a race belt, a team t-shirt and a support pack.

“There are still spaces in the club so any Quorum staff looking for a challenge that will get you very fit and make you part of a fantastic team should contact the hub team.”

Neil Sim, Data and MI Lead at Balfour Beatty, one of Quorum’s tenants said: “Last year a small group of us from Quorum took part in the Newcastle Triathlon. Quorum offered us support and discounts which is what gave me the push to sign up to the club.

“The support network you join and being part of a team adds to the enjoyment of competing. I am excited about the coming season and urge anyone who is interested to join us.”

Members can also take advantage of free bike maintenance at the monthly pop up Bike Hub and as well as boost their training by taking part in the monthly evening bike rides that are lead from Quorum. There are a range of local 30 minute running routes advertised on the Quorum website so members can squeeze some training in their lunch hour.

Quorum Business Park are also sponsoring the Newcastle team entering the JLL Property Triathlon North based at MediacityUK in Manchester on 24th July 2015. This is the first time the event has come to the North, having been successfully run at the Olympic rowing centre at Eton Dorney for the last 9 years. This is one of the top 5 largest triathlons in the UK and has raised over £1.3m to date for charity.
