Rent-A-Mum service launched
There are few things in life that are better than a freshly made bed, washing line dried laundry and a hot, healthy dinner waiting for you at the end of a long day.
For students heading away to University for the first time, these have been found to be the top three things that they miss when they leave the comforts of home to fend for themselves in the big, bad world.
One North East based letting agent has seen the despair expressed by these fresher’s year after year so has decided to do something about it.
For the first time this year, Christine McAllister from harcar property has launched a bespoke “Rent-a-Mum” service, available to all of her tenants and she has seen a huge amount of interest already, but not necessarily from the fresher’s themselves.
“I thought that the idea of a home from home would be a great way to help fresher’s settle in to University life when they come to the North East so have launched our Rent-A-Mum service to cook, clean and tidy the house. I thought that the Fresher’s themselves would be biting my arm off to take advantage of the service so was amazed at the amount of enquiries that I have been getting from the parents themselves“
Christine explained that this service seems to be offering a peace of mind to parents who are sending their loved ones away for the first time and it is they who have been signing up in their masses!
One parent who asked not to be named (for fear of embarrassing their son!) said “He’s absolutely useless around the house and that’s probably because we’ve spoiled him. My husband and I cook, clean, tidy, launder and even taxi him around everywhere so the thought of sending him off to look after himself scares the daylights out of us! I would rather rent him a substitute Mum for term time than think of him eating noodles and cereal all week, swimming in a pile of his own dirty laundry!”
Christine says that it’s not only Mum’s that they provide; “Of course, it’s not just Mum’s that we supply - there are an equal measure of Dad’s in there too, it was just the Rent-A-Mum name that we settled for!”
She added “I’m sure that if you were nice to your rent-a-mum that she would even bake you a birthday cake! Just make sure you don’t forget her on Mother’s Day!”
