Hull City Council approve cruise ship terminal plans
Hull’s tourism sector has just received a major boost as the city’s council have approved plans for a cruise ship terminal at the docks.
This development at Hull’s docks is expected to generate a rise in visitors and tourism in the area, and inject around £13m into the city’s economy along with an additional £15m for the region.
Possible sites for the cruise ship terminal include Sammy’s Point, beside The Deep, and Albert Dock.
The council is now trying to secure private investment for the development.
Councillor Steven Bayes said, via ITV: “The development and delivery of a city centre riverside berth will create a long term legacy for Hull, contributing to the wider regeneration of the city centre. Importantly, it will also create long-term employment opportunities for our existing workforce and young people in a key sector.
“This is such an exciting time in the city and alongside plans already in place to redevelop the city centre and some of our key culture hubs like the Ferens Art Gallery; we need to look to the future and how the city can continue to capitalise on the City of Culture success.”
