Yorkshire Lawyers fall from the sky for charity

On 10th July, six lawyers from Taylor Bracewell’s Doncaster and Sheffield offices will be jumping out of a plane at 10,000 feet above Hibaldstow Airfield in Lincolnshire to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust while attempting to break a world record.

The six brave skydivers are: Managing Partner Sharon Beck, Head of HR & Employment Law department Sara Ellison, Head of Probate in Sheffield Lauren Smith, Kerry Maddison, Harjit Singh and Jessica Lidster. They will be taking part in ‘Skydive for Stephen’, an event organised by the Teenage Cancer Trust charity at the request of Stephen Sutton’s family and friends. Unfortunately Stephen was not able to fulfil his ambition to break the Guinness World Record for the greatest number of tandem parachute jumps in 24 hours before he died last year.

“Stephen helped Teenage Cancer Trust reach some huge milestones for young people with cancer, but for every young person we can help, there’s another we can’t currently reach so we have a long way to go“, said Kate Collins, Director of Fundraising & Marketing at Teenage Cancer Trust.

“After mentioning in passing that I had always fancied doing a Skydive, I received an email the following morning asking me if I wanted to take part in this record-breaking Skydive in memory of Stephen Sutton“ says Taylor Bracewell’s Lauren Smith, who put the team together for this event. “What a fantastic way to raise money for an amazing charity, in memory of an incredibly inspirational person!“

To break the Guinness World Record for the ‘most tandem parachute jumps in 24 hours in a single venue’, Teenage Cancer Trust needs at least 350 people to jump 10,000 feet on Friday 10th July 2015 at Hibaldstow Airfield in Lincolnshire. The current record stands at 281 jumps and was completed in Devon on 21st June 2014.

Around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only charity dedicated to providing expert care and support from the moment they hear the word cancer.

Before he died, Stephen raised over £5 million for Teenage Cancer Trust. Within South Yorkshire, where Taylor Bracewell are based, funds raised by Stephen have directly gone into the refurbishment of the Teenage Cancer Unit at Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield.
