Doncaster’s Cusworth Hall invests in energy-saving future

Cusworth Hall in Doncaster is set to generate clean and renewable energy, with the installation of solar panels on its roof.

The panels, installed by Doncaster council, will provide the Grade I listed country house with 5700 kilowatts of clean electricity per year.

Furthermore, as the government is committed to fund those who create renewable energy, the council’s expenses for the installations of the panels will be fully recovered.

Over the last several months Cusworth Hall has undergone major roof repairs, with work being carried out to repair and weatherproof the historic landmark.

At the same time, the council decided to install a number of solar panels on the roof which will provide Cusworth Hall with clean energy for years to come.

The solar panels are expected to provide savings of up to £23k for the council over the next 20 years, more than covering the money spent on installation.

The investment in solar energy at Cusworth Hall is one of many the Council has considered for its buildings. There are 6 other buildings which are having solar panels installed over the period May to August, giving the Council a long term income and surplus of over £500k.

Cllr Sandra Holland, cabinet member for the environment, said: “We are always looking for ways to modernise, and installing solar panels at Cusworth Hall is a great example of what we want to do. This simple measure will provide clean renewable energy, save the council from paying increased electricity costs in the future, and be unobtrusive to the beautiful landscape of the building.

“We have also ensured minimal disruption to Cusworth visitors by installing the panels while other maintenance was taking place.
