We Love MCR Charity launch first for Manchester
The We Love MCR Charity has launched the Manchester Youth Markets, a new test-trading programme to help young Mancunians become more successful in business. We Love MCR Charity will be funding a new pop up youth market and aiming to raise £29,247 so that they can offer young people aged 16 – 30 a range of real-life trading opportunities to test their business ideas; an online market place, a retail shop in a prime city centre location, hot-desking in incubators and guest trading at local markets. We Love MCR charity will use its crowd-funding partner #MakeMCR on the Spacehive web site to raise donations from the public and the business community.
Chris Bird, Chair of We Love MCR Charity, said “We have developed this programme to give the young people of Manchester a chance to try out their business plans and to develop the skills you can only learn when trading to the public. I started on a market stall and learnt so much but the most important lesson was how to communicate with people and that lasts a lifetime.“
Throughout the programme the We Love MCR charity will be working with a range of partners including The Prince’s Trust and other specialist business start-up agencies, Manchester Metropolitan University, The Manchester College and vInspired. From late September 2015 young people can apply for the programme by submitting a two-minute video pitch. After a launch event in January 2016 young people can start the different test- trading opportunities. The Youth Market will launch in May 2016 and pop up every month in surprising city centre locations. This project has been organised by the We Love MCR Charity, which aims to improve the lives of the people of Manchester by funding community projects.
