Wedding Planners Guild UK to bring industry regulation

A new venture that aims to enforce up-to-date regulations to the wedding planning industry has been launched in the North West this week.

Wedding Planners Guild UK is the brainchild of Yvonne Bennett, who hopes to bring new standards to the ever-growing trade and ensure professionalism throughout the field.

Her three-day course is available to both individuals, who are eager to embark on their career and gain a prestigious qualification, and already established businesses looking to expand their events team’s skillset in wedding planning.

Yvonne, who is originally from Liverpool, said: “I’m really excited to bring the training to the UK. I previously worked as Regional Manager for Wedding Planners International, based in the Netherlands, and I went on to gain the rights to use the course here. We are hosting an open day on July 18 at Hilton Liverpool to introduce to course to potential students, with the opportunity for them to ask some questions and get a real feel for what we do.

“The course trains upcoming and already established wedding planners through a variety of modules, including venues, bridal clothing, themed weddings, multi-cultural weddings and etiquette and traditions. Our secondary qualification, the Certificate in Professional Wedding Planning, will look more closely at setting up your own business and focus on modules such as marketing and administration.“

Students can undertake the course to gain an Award in Professional Wedding Planning and can opt to go further and embark on a second course to receive their Certificate in Professional Wedding Planning in a variety of locations across the UK including Liverpool, Glasgow, Newcastle, London, Bristol, Leeds and Birmingham.

Following an intensive classroom course, students are required to build a portfolio of their work which is then sent back to the Liverpool head office for assessment, and when qualified can become an official member of the Wedding Planners Guild UK. Members of the guild can take advantage of benefits including online forums, industry meetings and the option to display the esteemed WPGUK logo on their website.

The UK wedding industry is currently worth £10 billion pounds, with an average wedding budget of £15,494.

Yvonne added: “After investing all of my savings into the business, I can’t wait for it to take off and begin teaching the course. As the wedding planning industry is so big in the UK, I think it’s extremely important to ensure regulations are in place so that couples set to wed are provided with the highest standards of planning available.“

The Wedding Planners Guild UK Open Day will take place at Hilton Liverpool on Saturday, July 18 between 3-6pm. Admission is free.
