New CBI North Wales chair urges businesses to ‘seize opportunities’

The new North Wales chair of the CBI has called on the region’s businesses to ‘think strategically’ and ‘seize opportunities’ now being presented as the region’s economy lifts off.

Tracy North, managing director of PR and marketing agency Outwrite, takes up the two-year post at the employers’ association, where she will represent CBI members from North Wales to lobby on a range of issues from energy to public services.

CBI Wales speaks for companies of every size, from the country’s biggest employers to small and medium-sized businesses. It is the main business organisation working with the Welsh Government to deliver a more competitive environment and create jobs.

A former journalists who founded her Mold-based business 21 years ago, Tracy said: “I am honoured to take up this role and am very much looking forward to working with businesses in North Wales to ensure that their voices are heard.

“There is growing optimism and vibrancy among the business community in North Wales. We are now seeing real benefits from the upturn in the economy. Businesses now have a chance to think more strategically, look long-term and seize all the additional new opportunities that are now presenting themselves.

“Many of our members have strong trading links running west to east, from North Wales into the North West.

“I’m going to work to ensure that we leverage CBI knowledge and contacts with members in the North West, to maximise our competitiveness within the business hubs in Cheshire, Merseyside and Manchester.

“One topic that is high on our agenda is fighting to improve transport links, both road and rail, between North Wales and the North West.

“There is a wealth of talent and expertise across North Wales. The CBI will continue to work to make sure members get their share of markets as confidence returns to the economy.”

Emma Watkins, director of the CBI Wales said: As we look ahead to the Welsh Assembly election next May, North Wales businesses must have a strong and credible voice and I can think of no-one better than Tracy to speak for the CBI in North Wales at this important time.“

CBI Wales represents the country’s biggest employers, including 75 per cent of anchor companies and a range of growth SME’s.
