Tottenham Hotspur sign 10-year deal with NFL

Tottenham Hotspur have signed a decade-long deal with the NFL to host two American football games a year at their new stadium.

The stadium, which is set to open in 2018, will have a capacity of 61,000 and will feature an artificial surface under the grass pitch for NFL games.

The 61,000-capacity venue will be built adjacent to White Hart Lane and will have larger changing rooms to accommodate for up to 50 players.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said: “We have an opportunity now to deliver one of the most unique sports, leisure and entertainment venues in the world, bringing together the Premier League and NFL for the first time.”

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, said: “Touchdowns in Tottenham can only add to our reputation as a global sporting powerhouse and help us take another step towards our goal of having a permanent NFL franchise in London.”

In 2012, Tottenham failed in a bid to take over London’s Olympic Stadium. Instead, it is set to become the new home of Premier League club West Ham in 2016 and is also hoping to NFL games.
