Phil Steadman, Naylors

Independent property consultancy, Naylors, has made a new senior appointment and two promotions to strengthen its team of directors.

The Newcastle-based firm of chartered surveyors has appointed new director, Phil Steadman, who joins them from DTZ to head up the valuation and lease advisory department.

Phil worked in a similar role at DTZ’s Newcastle office for over 15 years and brings with him a vast level of experience and a significant track record.

Naylors has also promoted Simon Taylor, head of office agency to director and Dean Clark in building consultancy to associate director. Simon and Dean both previously worked for Jones Lang LaSalle until the closure of the Newcastle office in 2013.

Phil Steadman said: “Moving to an independent practice has given me the opportunity to manage my own department and I am looking forward to developing and growing the valuations and lease advisory side of the business. It is an exciting time to join the expanding Naylors team and be part of their ambitious growth plans.”

Jez Davison, Aimee Muirhead and Sharon Armstrong, Press Ahead

Sunderland-based Press Ahead has hired Jez Davison as senior PR account manager, Aimee Muirhead as digital account manager and Sharon Armstrong as a senior designer.

Jez has spent the last 14 years in journalism and PR, working for local newspapers, national business magazines and PR agencies in the North of England and Brussels, Belgium.

The business has further resourced its digital offering with the appointment of Aimee, who joins from St Oswald’s Hospice in Newcastle where she was responsible for managing and implementing the organisation’s digital communications strategy.

Sharon joins Press Ahead after spending the last ten years at international baby product maker Tommee Tippee.

Kieron Goldsborough, who became MD of Press Ahead following a management buyout in early 2014, said: “The appointments of Jez, Aimee and Sharon are a necessary step in the evolution of the company. We have moved to bigger offices in Sunderland and we are delighted that we have been able to attract such high calibre staff to enable us to serve our clients to an exceptional level.

“Many of our clients are tapping into our full range of services, which include PR, media buying, marketing strategy, creative design and social media support. We are well positioned for further growth in the future.”

John Carr, Gradon Architecture

Gradon Architecture, based at NE40Studios, Gateshead, has announced the appointment of architect John Carr.

John, from Newcastle, who studied at Northumbria University, has worked on both large and small scale projects across the North East, including Stockton’s North Shore, Redcar and Cleveland PFI schools and private client housing.

John said: “I’m looking forward to taking the next steps of my career with Gradon Architecture. The studio at NE40 is an inspiring environment, where I’ll be working with like-minded people on a variety of interesting and challenging projects.”

Mary Coyle, Shared Interest

North East ethical investment organisation has appointed Mary Coyle, MBE as chair of their board of directors.

Using investment from people living in the UK, Shared Interest offers loans and credit to fair trade businesses across the globe from its Newcastle headquarters. Local staff in Peru, Ghana, Kenya, and Costa Rica, help the organisation reach remote communities in the developing world.

Mary’s most recent roles have included ten years as regional director at leadership development organisation, Common Purpose and sixteen years at crime reduction charity Nacro, helping young offenders create a new life away from crime.

Mary said: “Throughout my career I have been involved in work that has been about helping people reach their full potential, both personally and professionally. Shared Interest has that at its core too.

“By investing, people in the UK are giving farmers and handcraft makers the tools they need to create a better future. That’s what interests me most about the organisation – helping people to help themselves.”
