Cheshire East to hold final exhibition over King Street development

Knutsford residents still have time to influence plans to revamp one of the town’s historic streets.

Although Cheshire East Council’s ‘Your Town – Your Choice’ consultation over improvements on King Street is running until the end of the month, people will have their last chance to speak face-to-face with officers later this week.

An exhibition trailer will be open on the Silk Mill car park to those hoping to express their views on Friday, July 17 from 10am to 6pm, and Saturday, July 18 between 10am and 4pm.

The council wants to know if locals support the proposals to turn King Street into a more vibrant and enjoyable public space that will draw more visitors and help the town’s businesses prosper.

The cabinet member responsible for regeneration and assets, Councillor Don Stockton, said: “It is important for the Council to hear the views of as many Knutsford residents as possible on whether they want the proposed scheme and the design concept.

“I’m delighted that so many people have taken part in this consultation so far and I hope those who haven’t yet given their views will now do so. There will be opportunities to ask questions during the final two events and hear from staff directly involved in this scheme.”

During the exhibition’s opening weekend, more than 400 people came forward to voice their opinions.

The development scheme is aiming to make the space more accessible for pedestrians and those with special mobility requirements, while maintaining on-street parking and vehicle access where possible. Another of the scheme’s objectives is to conserve and enhance the street’s historic character.
