JM Glendinning acquires Scarborough insurance broker to fuel expansion plans
JM Glendinning, the Yorkshire-based insurance firm, has acquired the East coast’s largest independent broker as part of its ambitious growth strategy.
JM Glendinning has acquired a majority shareholding in the £2.2m turnover Scarborough-based A.S. Green & Co, which now enables the firm to operate throughout the whole of Yorkshire and the North East.
Established in 1978 and based in Scarborough town centre, A.S Green’s team of 13 staff provide business and personal insurance and risk management services to clients in the Scarborough area.
JM Glendinning is a privately owned group comprising eight companies spanning insurance broking, financial services, employment law, health & safety and recruitment services.
Employing over 130 staff, the firm has offices in West, South and East Yorkshire, the North East and the Midlands.
Nick Houghton, managing director, stated that the A.S. Green acquisition marks another major development in the firm’s plans to double in size over the next two years, expand its reach throughout the north of England and create 20 new jobs.
A.S. Green founder Tony Green, who will continue to lead the business in Scarborough, also said there will be very little change to the day-to-day running of the firm, and that clients will benefit from being part of a larger insurance group:
Tony commented: “We have built a successful business on being here ‘on the doorstep’ of many of our clients, offering quality, independent advice and a friendly, personal service, and none of this will change.
“JM Glendinning is a well-respected name in the industry and a Top 100 UK broker. Being part of the group will give us access to more insurers and give us greater buying power to source competitive products and services for our clients, who will also have the opportunity to access the additional services JM Glendinning offers, such as employee benefits and health and safety support.”
Nick added: “A.S. Green is a well-established and successful business, with a great team. The Scarborough economy has seen a renaissance in recent years, and this is a great opportunity to work with Tony and his team to grow the business and benefit from the investment that’s going into the region.”
