Apple Pay pilot launched at Shoreditch coffee shop

An independent coffee shop and cocktail bar on Old Street roundabout in Shoreditch has claimed to be the first shop in the UK to offer Apply Pay.

Shoreditch Grind, which is minutes from Silicon Roundabout, is offering customers the chance to use their iPhones tap-and-pay, according to The Telegraph.

Customers can pay for items up to £20 by touching their iPhone 6, 6 Plus or Apple Watch to the payment terminal.

In a press notice, the cafe owners said they are “offering their start-up neighbours the chance to be part of Apple history and step into the future with a great cup of coffee”.

Shoreditch Grind, which is operated by parent company Grind, has joined forces with mobile payments platform iZettle to process Apple Pay payments, and will also be launching an Apple Pay compatible app.

“Grind has always been about doing things our own way, and a little differently,” said co-founder Kaz James.

As of 7am today, Shoreditch Grind is accepting Apple Pay as a form of payment.
