Lancashire agricultural firm lands seven-figure finance deal

A family-run farming business in Lancashire has secured a £1m funding deal with the Royal Bank of Scotland to acquire a facility near Rochdale and safeguard jobs.

The RBS cash has allowed Wigan-based Brosters Environmental Ltd to acquire the existing Todmorden waste management site and retain six jobs, in addition to creating a new admin role.

Brosters Environmental is part of Brosters Cheshire, a farming company that spans three generations. The head of the new waste management facility, David Broster, is working with businesses and councils all over the North West to deposit organic waste, which is then used to create rich soil for growing crops.

Commenting on the acquisition, David said: “We have been composting waste on a small scale for 10 years at the farm, for our own use, and have been pleased at the benefits this brings.

“By purchasing the waste management site, we can continue to do this on a larger scale and meet the growing demands for this facility.”

He added: “The transition has been straightforward because taking over an existing plant has equipped us with the machinery and equipment to get started from day one.”

The company has reported seeing an increase in contracts as it meets the demand across the UK.

RBS’ senior agricultural manager, Mark Holden, commented: “We have known the Brosters family for a number of years and we have been happy to support their latest acquisition which is responsible for retaining jobs in the area, creating new roles and helping a local customer expand and achieve great success with many more opportunities to come.”
