Blyth tech company exports renewable energy solutions worldwide

Blyth-based Solar Capture Technologies is exporting its renewable energy technologies worldwide.

From five metre-high fake palm trees delivering Wi-Fi and tourist information on the beaches of Dubai, to emergency roadside telephones lining the highways of the UK, the company is somewhat of a hidden gem in the region.

Solar Capture Technologies specialises in the design, development and manufacture of custom solar power solutions, harnessing the power of the sun to solve some of the challenges of the modern world in sectors such traffic management, protection, telecoms, transport, oil and gas and defence and aerospace.

The company, which employs a team of 16 full-time engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff, designs and manufactures the entirety of its products from its base in Blyth.

Solar Capture showcased some of its work at Innovation Showcase last year as part of a strategic move by the company to commercialise its operation which started out as a research and development facility.

Steve Caseley, Chief Executive, said: “We are very well known on an academic level because we have worked with the world’s major photovoltaic research facilities over the past 10 years but we only recently decided to commercialise our science.

“We are currently one of the region’s best-kept secrets because we supply our technologies directly to our customers and they integrate our technology into their world-leading products so we are always one step away from the marketplace.”

Featuring at Venturefest North East, Steve was able to showcase and raise the profile of his company.

He explained: “Innovation Showcase at Venturefest North East was an important step for us in reaching out to other businesses to make them aware of our capabilities and the phenomenal opportunities that exist in photovoltaic innovation. The event provides a welcome spotlight on the innovation that is taking place in the North East – often quite under the radar.”
