Commercial Truck and Van specialist pedals into Sheffield
A local commercial truck and van dealership is expanding its backing of young talent by playing a key role in the upcoming Sheffield Grand Prix.
The elite level cycling event is taking over Sheffield’s Pinstone Street with riders completing a circuit around the city centre in the elite men’s race following the Northside Truck and Van Classic support race in which both men and women of all levels can compete.
The Sheffield dealership, a commercial vehicle franchise of Mercedes-Benz, places a high value on growing and developing young talent through its award-winning apprenticeship programme. The sponsorship was the brainchild of former cyclist and Northside’s marketing manager Tom Ward, who drives the company’s ethos to nurture fresh talent.
Taking place on 22 July, the support race will see riders race through the Sheffield city-centre circuit taking them past the Town Hall, Winter Gardens and Sweet Peaks corner.
Event organiser, Marc Etches, said: “We’re delighted to have Northside Truck and Van on board and its backing of the support race is vital to our entry level cyclists who are looking for their big break. Northside has a notable apprenticeship scheme and the philosophy of developing young talent really lends itself to our support race at the Sheffield Grand Prix – we could be seeing future Tour de France stars pedalling past us!”
On selecting the support race to sponsor, Northside dealer principle, Tim Ward, said: “We are proud to place a high emphasis on the importance of developing fresh talent and backing the Sheffield Grand Prix’s support race is an extension of our beliefs around training. The sport has seen such a huge growth in the 12 months since the Grand Depart rolled through Yorkshire and we’re really keen to spread the message that a little nurturing and coaching can be a lifeline for today’s talented youth.”
The Sheffield Grand Prix starts from 6pm with the Northside Truck and Van Classic support race taking place at 7pm. For information about the event visit www.sheffieldgrandprix.co.uk
