Manchester construction firm on track for record revenue

Building firm Harbur Construction is expecting to hit a new turnover record after securing a string of contracts worth nearly £70m.

The company, which is headquartered near Manchester Airport, is aiming for a £40m turnover by the end of the year and hopes to employ 10 new members of staff.

Harbur Construction will deliver 800 new homes over the next 12 months in sites located across the North West and Yorkshire. The contract wins represent a new record for the company, which reported a rise in instructions following the General Election earlier this year.

The firm’s MD, Richard Hutchinson, commented: “The construction sector has gained momentum over the past three years.

“Many developers slowed down plans pending the outcome of the May General Election. Since then, it’s fair to say the market has really taken off with new instructions and opportunities coming from all sectors – affordable, extra care and open market.”

Harbur Construction has 10 projects in the pipeline, including a £11.8m contract for a 150-unit apartment building in Manchester, a £9m contract for 101 affordable homes in Liverpool and another worth £7m for student accommodation in Preston.

The company, which recorded a £24m turnover in 2014, has appointed 18 new members of staff since the beginning of this year.

Speaking further, Richard said: “Harbur was formed in the midst of the recession so we started with a lean business but created a model that could expand quickly once the market recovered.

“Like with any growing business, ensuring we attract good people is important. Everything we do is built on quality.”
