Sheffield City Trust win fifth golf course management contract

Sheffield City Trust (SCT), the Leisure operator, now has five golf courses in its portfolio after winning the contract to run Sinfin in Derby.

SCT has secured the management, operation and development contract for the 18-hole course, home of Derby Golf Club.

SCT, which already manages four other golf courses in Chesterfield and Sheffield, will invest a six figure sum in renovating the course and its facilities.

The operator will also introduce cheaper rounds as well as the Golfit membership package and goGOLF scheme.

Members of the Golfit scheme will now have unlimited access to five courses including the 6,185 yard Sinfin, Tapton Park in Chesterfield and Beauchief, Birley Wood and Tinsley Park in Sheffield. SCT is also introducing a goGOLF scheme at Sinfin.

Steve Brailey, chief executive of SCT, said: “Winning this contract reinforces our position as one of the UK’s leading leisure providers and we look forward to working on this exciting new project at Sinfin.

“In recent years, there have been upgrades to the course facilities and we’ll be working to build on this to grow participation.

“As well as further investment in facilities, we’ll be introducing a range of membership and learn to play packages at Sinfin designed to attract even more people of all ages and abilities to get into golf and also strengthen the talent development pathway.”

Originally constructed in 1923, Sinfin Golf Course is a par 70 parkland course with narrow tree-lined fairways.

Facilities include a clubhouse with locker rooms and showers, a bar, pro shop, club and trolley hire and free car parking. Every year, the course attracts more than 22,500 visitors and plays host to golf competitions and club tournaments.

Steve added: “At Sheffield City Trust, our charitable objective is all about improving health and wellbeing by providing facilities for sport and leisure activities.

“By adding Sinfin to our portfolio, it will give our Golfit members even more opportunities to play with unlimited access to the course as part of our membership scheme.”
