Tottenham and Chelsea could share Wembley from 2017

Tottenham and Chelsea may share Wembley Stadium from 2017, while their respective grounds are being built.

According to the Daily Star, Tottenham is currently in the process of choosing one stadium to operate from for the duration of the build. However, the club has faced difficulties securing Wembley as there are clashes with many other events that the national stadium is used for throughout the season.

Richard Scudamore, chief executive of the Premier League said: “Premier League fixtures are paired so Liverpool and Everton, Tottenham and Arsenal and Manchester United and Manchester City do not play at home on the same weekend”

“You might very well argue that in some circumstances that would be desirable but I do know the reasons why it would be hard”, continues Scudmore. Tottenham has two seasons to find a secondary home.

“The next step will be more, I don’t think they can be bigger, there is a practical difficulty with the big, you couldn’t have more teams really, involved, because it will be here too long, you can’t really be here for two weeks”.

“They have to work it out with Wembley or wherever they want to play, and decide if they could deliver that level of commitment to us”.

The North London club are now left with the decision to make over their permanent home for the 2017/2018 season but Scudamore has suggested the club should share with Arsenal.

White Hart Lane will be demolished and replaced by a new 61,000-capacity arena.
