Newcastle's House of Savannah relocation marks final phase of £500k investment

Urban retreat House of Savannah is set to become the first city centre spa to offer a sauna and steam room experience at its four-storey property in Newcastle’s Old Eldon Square.

The lifestyle salon and spa, which was founded in 2000 by Marc and Kay Cunningham, is opening its wellness suite to the public this month.

A full refurbishment got underway on relocating to the impressive 6,500sq ft outlet, and this project marks the final phase of a £500k investment to transform the Georgian terrace.

Completed work includes boutique therapy rooms in the eaves overlooking the green, a hair salon and L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Lounge flanking the first floor and most recently, the installation of a pedicure station within the spa relaxation lounge.

Owner Marc Cunningham said: “We’re extremely excited to announce the launch of our new wellness destination for our customers to take time out right in the heart of the city.

“Last year’s relocation has seen our client base expand so we’re confident that this addition will further boost our appeal in the North East – bringing more people into the city for an experience which you would sometimes have to venture further afield for.”

The sauna and steam room both boast multifunctional capacity with Roman, Finnish and Bio sauna alongside tepidarium, caldarium and Hammam steam options. There is also a sleek Italian-designed ‘emotional’ shower with waterfall, cascade and vapour programmes to choose from, to complement the thermotherapy.

Marc added: “We’ve selected a stylish, cutting edge design to meet wide-ranging preferences of visitors, where the space has truly been maximised. We believe House of Savannah has a unique offer where neither the quality of the salon or spa services are outweighed by the other, but can both be enjoyed together.”

The wellness suite facilities can be reserved for private use and caters for individuals, couples and groups of up to 10 guests. Packages include time to relax in the Buddha lounge with a glass of bubbly and sweet treats.
