Bardsley Construction wins double in Manchester awards

Bardsley named Contractor of the Year at Manchester Architects Awards and Construction Business of the Year at Pride of Tameside Awards 2015

Bardsley Construction has won two major accolades recently after being named Contractor of the Year at the Manchester Architects Awards and Construction Business of the Year at the Pride of Tameside Awards.

The business based in Dukinfield, Tameside, Greater Manchester, was recognised at the Manchester Architects Awards for its design and build of a Regional Automotive Technology Hub (RATH) at Blackburn College.

The £3.9m contract for RATH was awarded to Bardsley in 2014 and became the fourth major project undertaken by the Greater Manchester-based firm on behalf of Blackburn College.

RATH is a two-storey centre of excellence for the automotive industry and was completed in the summer of 2014. Key features of the building include automotive workshops, auto electrics, a paint workshop, IT labs and teaching classrooms.

The other three projects awarded to Bardsley Construction by Blackburn College were for the £11m UCBC Building with a further £1m extension, the £13.8m Beacon Centre and the £5.5m STEMM building.

Ged Rooney, procurement director at Bardsley Construction, said: “RATH is a wonderful example of the work we do for a number of further educational institutions, and it’s genuinely rewarding to be recognised for our expertise in the provision of specialist teaching and training facilities for such institutions.”

Bardsley also triumphed in the Pride of Tameside Awards, winning Construction Business of the Year.

Philip Brown, Chairman of Tameside Enterprise Board, said: “The particular aspect that made Bardsley Construction stand out from the rest of the many applicants was their ability to diversify during the last three years coming out of recession, their constant growth in turnover and staff numbers, whilst adapting to new working ways breaking into new market sectors. Their positive working relationships with their clients and local supply and labour chain has paid many dividends.

“Bardsley’s ability to deliver high quality projects on time and on budget has seen the credibility of the company grow here in Tameside. Their reinvestment in training and providing career and skills opportunities, employing 11 apprentices last year, is helping the local Tameside economy grow daily. Congratulations.”
