Lake District wedding venue goes up for sale
Leisure property firm Fleurets has brought a new hotel and eatery to market in the South Lake District area of Cumbria.
Fleurets, which has an office on Moston Lane East in Manchester, has announced that the Chequers Hotel and Restaurant in Dalton-in-Furness is now for sale with an asking price of £1.65m. While the hotel has been run by one family since 1986, it is now being sold due to the retirement plans of its owners.
Fleurets’ Lesley Watmough said: “During the week occupancy takes care of itself due to the strong demand for business and commercial trade as a result of the improving economy in this section of Cumbria.
“The Furness Peninsula is currently experiencing a huge financial boom with more than £5bn in investment forecast in the area over the next 10 years. Therefore, there is a shortage of quality hotel accommodation.”
The hotel is currently run by Karl Benn, who also owns a cryotherapy business called Cryopod. Since he took over Chequers Hotel & Restaurant in 2012 with his wife Charlotte, the business’ turnover has increased from £800k to more than £1m.
Over the years the venue has come to focus on weddings, typically catering for between 50 and 60 each year.
