New £2.4m Deeside transport hub completed thanks to turnkey support from Caulmert
A growing Flintshire storage and distribution firm has moved in to a new £2.4m transport hub, office and warehouse thanks to support from engineering, environmental and planning consultancy Caulmert.
Ambitious Edge Transport, which had outgrown its previous site near Wrexham, has completed the development of a new 6.2 acre facility on the Deeside Industrial Estate.
The project, which features an extensive transshipment facility, office space, the refurbishment of an existing warehouse and a new, high-quality warehouse build, has been developed with the company’s expansion plans in mind – affording space for further growth in the future.
In managing the development, Caulmert oversaw all aspects of its design, planning and engineering. The St Asaph-based consultancy delivered expertise in ten different disciplines in a turnkey approach to the project.
Jonathan Edge, managing director of Edge Transport said: “We had outgrown our old site in Llay due to extra demand for our storage services and the overall growth of the business.
“Our project management expertise did not cover a project of this type. Fortunately, the support we’ve had from Caulmert and our suppliers made the development possible.
“Our new depot has been purpose-built and designed with lessons learned from our previous site in mind. It’s perfectly suited to where we are now, and the potential to expand further means we’re future-proofed for the next 15 to 20 years.”
Allan Smith, engineering director at Caulmert, said: “We were originally approached by Edge Transport to assess the feasibility of their previous site. After that, they came back to us looking to develop a new site that suited the growth and development of the business.
“We carried out a further feasibility study, and within 12 months had delivered the full project, including all design, planning and construction work.
“The development is a great example of how we can manage every aspect of a development on behalf of our clients. All partners, from the client through to our sub-contractors, working in harmony, resulting in the fast delivery of the overall development.”
The new base was delivered thanks to support from construction contractor Wynne Construction, as well as work from architect D2 Architect and SP Projects in Mold.
