Google Acquires Pixate - A Mobile App Prototyping Tool

In another acquisition by the Search Giant, another small tech company has been bought by Google. The latest acquisition goes with the company’s aim to continuously try and further expand its reach and enhance its product offerings. With its newest acquisition, developers are surely going to love it as this search giant is now welcoming its newest member, the Pixate crew and integrating it into the design team.

Acquisitions at this level isn’t anything new with multiple acquisitions every year by companies like Facebook and Google each year. Most of us would remember Facebook’s acquisition of Whatsapp last year. The question always remains as to who got the most out of the deal. The exact amount of the deal has not been disclosed. No matter how much Google paid for Pixate, the main question here is how much the people would have to pay for it. With the Pixate Studio going completely free, one can now feel quite relieved as they do not have to pay hundreds of dollars which the software previously used to cost. Let us now focus what really is going on with Pixate and Google.

What is Pixate?

The Pixate is a software which helps designers and developers to see their mobile app related ideas come to life. This software has the ability to generate native prototypes for Android and iOS so that app makers can experience their interface as if it were a reality.

Moreover, by using this platform, developers can easily upload their own layers and add animations and interaction commands as per their needs. The project can be shared with team members later on so that the design can be tested and improved upon if need be.

What happens to Pixate?

The design tool is surely not dying and will continue to run independently as assured by both Pixate and Google. However, there will be changes made that will be beneficial to the user by all means.

Pricing

Google is known to make services cheaper and more accessible than before and that is why Pixate Studio will be now available for free! The pricing of Pixate Cloud has also been terribly slashed and is available for $5 a month or $50 a year. However Pixate’s free cloud services have been done away with. A credit of $150 will be given to people who have already purchased Pixate to be used for Pixate Cloud.

Pixate team’s role at Google

Google has stated that their recent acquisition is going to add to their ‘ongoing effort to develop new design and prototyping tools, including Form1.3.’ Paul Colton, Pixate CEO was heard saying that they would be ‘joining the design team’ soon.

In order to help developers create the best of apps, Google continues to build bridges whenever possible. This is going to prove to be a great tool for designers especially because Pixate has become free.
