New programme director appointed to drive Tottenham’s regeneration scheme

A new programme director has been appointed to push forward London’s biggest regeneration scheme.

Helen Fisher, who has been at the helm of some of the most significant regeneration London has seen in recent years, will turn her talents to Tottenham.

As programme director, she will spearhead the council’s ambitious plans for the area – including the delivery of 10,000 new homes, 5,000 new jobs and more than 1million sq ft of employment space by 2025.

Helen’s 25-year career includes a four-year stint as director of the Nine Elms Vauxhall opportunity area, overseeing a redevelopment that includes Battersea Power Station, the US Embassy, two new Tube stations and thousands of new homes and jobs.

Her other roles include leading the regeneration of Newham’s Canning Town, working innovatively alongside residents to ensure local people got the best from estate renewal schemes, such as introducing employment charters for developers to ensure local jobs – an approach which was replicated at Nine Elms.

Helen said: “I’m delighted to be joining London’s most ambitious and exciting regeneration programme, which will bring thousands of new homes and jobs to one of our city’s most vibrant communities.

“Tottenham has an inspiring future, and I can’t wait to get to work meeting the local people who will benefit most from the new opportunities regeneration will unlock.”

Helen also spent seven years at the Stratford Development Partnership for Regeneration and has been an advisor on regeneration to the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Haringey Council Leader Claire Kober said: “I’m thrilled to welcome someone of Helen’s calibre to Haringey, and I’m sure her years of experience will prove invaluable as we press ahead with securing Tottenham’s future as one of London’s best places to live and work.

“Helen’s track record in securing the best for residents in regeneration speaks for itself, and her enthusiasm for our regeneration plans is a huge vote of confidence in Tottenham.”
