Top five most innovative food and drink concepts in Brighton

The colourful city of Brighton, renowned for its vibrant atmosphere, has experienced a hospitality boom of late, with several innovative bars and restaurants popping up in the seaside town’s streets over the last few months. From the weird to the downright wacky, we’ve put together a list of the top five most unusual food and drink concepts in Brighton.

Kooks, Gardner Street - In May, professional DJ-turned-entrepreneur Tim Healey opened his new ‘boho bistro’ in the city. Situated in the heart of the North Laine, Kooks is a joint venture with Tim’s wife, having both lived in the city for 16 years. The bistro serves breakfast from 10am until late, lunch and dinner, seven days a week - with an extensive bar and an inspirational soundtrack. An absolute-must for all culture-lover visiting Brighton.

The Tempest Inn, Kings Road Arches - Situated on the seafront, The Tempest Inn is a unique experience. Having opened earlier this year, the pub is a series of caves, allowing guests to experience a truly intimate experience in the tourist centre of town. The Tempest also features a large room with a panoramic view of the sea. A moment of bliss in bustling Brighton.

Silo, North Laine - For several generations, Brighton has pioneered the UK’s green energy plight. As the home of former Green Party leader Caroline Lucas, the city is always in the market for new and innovative ways to save energy and minimise waste. Silo, which opened in September last year, is a zero-waste restaurant concept led by experienced chef Douglas McMaster, serving only six key dishes every day using seasonal, local produce.

Funfair Club, King’s Road - From the entrepreneurial duo behind London’s ‘The Bathhouse-Bishopsgate’ and ‘The Baby Bathhouse’, the Funfair Club transmits Brighton’s theatrical history, combining the mystique of the pier and the seaside town’s popular funfair. A regular celebrity haunt, the venue plays host to a variety of entertainment including burlesque shows, live snake charmers, magicians and firebreathers.

Namul, Gardner Street - This hidden gem is the only place in Brighton that serves Bibimbap, a Korean dish roughly translating as “mixed rice”. Behind its rather unassuming exterior, Namul is an authentic south Asian experience and a perfect lunchtime hang out.
