Leeds trio engineer funds for charity

A team of civil and structural engineers from Leeds have crossed the Pennines to take part in a gruelling triathlon in order to raise money for two charities.

Erol Erturan, Mathew Ramsden and Chris Brown, who all work for Adept Civil and Structural Consulting Engineers, ran, cycled and swam as a team in the JLL Property Triathlon North at MediaCity in Manchester.

Adept’s Director, Matthew Ramsden, says: “There were hundreds of competitors taking part in a 750m swim, 20km cycle and a 5km run, as individuals and in teams. Anyone from the property industry could take part and we thought it was a great way for us to help raise funds for two hugely deserving charities in Starlight and The Christie.”

Starlight brightens the lives of seriously and terminally ill children by granting wishes and providing fun, entertainment, laughter and distraction in every children’s hospital ward and hospice throughout the United Kingdom. The event raised £22,000 for the two charities.

The Christie is one of the largest hospital charities in the UK which treats more than 44,000 cancer sufferers every year. Based in Manchester it provides a networked service that serves a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester and Cheshire delivering care as close to the patients home as possible. As a national specialist centre, around a quarter of its patients are referred from other parts of the country for the specialist treatments available.

The JLL Property Triathlon North is the sister event to the highly successful Property Triathlon and Property Swim which was held earlier this month at Dorney Lake near Eton. Now into its ninth year, this event is firmly established as one of the UK’s top five largest triathlons and has so far raised £1.3 million for charity.
