Kirkby Lonsdale micro-brewery secures permission for new facility
A former auction room in the Cumbria town of Kirkby Lonsdale is set to be transformed into a micro-brewery complete with a new visitor centre, café and bar.
Permission for the development was secured on appeal for the Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery Company Ltd by Steven Abbott Associates LLP, the North West-based planning consultancy.
Andrew Tait, a planning consultant based at the Kendal office of Steven Abbott Associates, said: “We are very pleased to have secured an approval for the Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery Company for the conversion of this underused building in the heart of Kirkby Lonsdale into a brewery, visitor centre and café/bar, which will be a positive addition to this attractive and thriving market town.”
Established in 2009 and currently operating from a site based outside the town, the Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery Company saw the property, which is based within the local Conservation Area, as an opportunity for expansion.
The firm believes the new visitor centre attached to the facility will allow the public to gain an understanding of the brewing process.
