MGC supports creation of almost 18k jobs in its first full year
The Manchester Growth Company managed to support the creation of thousands of jobs and business start-ups in its first full year of operation, according to recent data from the organisation.
Launched in 2013 with the aim of boosting Manchester’s economic strength, MGC has reported that in its first full year, it supported the creation of nearly 17.8k jobs and assisted almost 2,600 businesses in the start-up phase. According to its own data, MGC generated £349m (Gross Value Added) for the economy.
Commenting on the organisation’s performance, MGC’s group chief executive, Mark Hughes, said: “As a company we have had a very significant and positive impact on the local economy through the creation of jobs, via our business support and business finance activity and as a result of our inward investment delivery.
“I believe this has been a very productive year for the Manchester Growth Company and I look forward to the exciting opportunities that the next 12 months will bring.”
The organisation also found work opportunities for more than 5,400 unemployed people during the period, as well as placing 3,272 apprenticeships.
The chairman of MGC, Richard Topliss, commented: “I have no doubt that the level of ambition and determination that we have seen at MGC over the last year, will only become bolder as we move into 2016.
“With the development of a less centralised and more sustainable economy, there will inevitably be plenty of challenges to be faced in the coming months and it is a great pleasure to be a part of a team that has the resources and the ability to come up with the solutions.”
