New green holiday village "will create 170 new jobs"

Plans for a state of the art, green holiday village at Angrove Park near Great Ayton are being made available for public comment at an exhibition next Tuesday (11th August), ahead of the development going before planners at Hambleton District Council.

The proposal is being put forward by local farmer Alan Petch, whose family have farmed in the area for generations, to help diversify the family’s farming enterprise. The 200 chalet park would be next to the existing holiday chalets of Angrove Park and includes plans for fishing ponds, a café and shops. The development would create an estimated 170 new jobs for the area, through direct employment at the site and in the supply chain.

The event will provide local residents with the opportunity to review and comment on the proposals, including a central hub, providing café, cycle hire and administrative support and various green energy and transport provisions, including the link that will provide the ‘Endeavour Way’ cycle path between Stokesley and Great Ayton.

Consultants have also estimated the scheme would provide a £3m boost to the local economy each year, including approximately an additional £1.6m spent on food and drink in the local area.

Various ecological reinstatement works are also proposed, including replanting of historic field boundaries and enhancing existing mature hedgerows to provide wildlife habitat. Fishing lakes would provide both ecological and recreational benefits. Additional planting and screening work are also proposed.

The planning application will include a full detailed assessment of visual impact, transport and highway considerations along with a detailed appraisal of economic effects. The application is expected to be submitted to Hambleton District Council at the end of August.

The public exhibition will take place on Tuesday 11th August at the Friends Meeting House in Great Ayton between 4pm and 6pm. There will be an opportunity to discuss the scheme with the consultants and make comments before it is finalised ahead of application.
