North East's largest bus operator to launch newly branded service with £1.7m investment
Go North East, the Gateshead-based bus operator, is investing £1.7m on new buses for its East Durham fleet.
With the addition of 14 new vehicles for its Peterlee depot, the company is launching a newly branded service called indiGo - a result of Go North East ploughing 100% of its profits back into improving its services.
The new vehicles are part of a programme of investment to ensure its fleet is as modern and efficient as possible. The move comes just 18 months after a significant £30m spend on 100 new vehicles and a new super depot in Dunston, Gateshead.
The service’s slogan is indiGo to here, indiGo to there and the buses connect Peterlee to Durham, Sunderland, Newcastle, Middlesbrough and beyond.
Managing director Kevin Carr said: “This investment is important to ensure we are giving passengers the most reliable and comfortable service we can.
“We hope that the new fleet of indiGo vehicles will prove as popular as the Optare Solos we introduced onto our Venture service in Consett.”
Go North East has a fleet of 680 buses and is the north east’s third largest employer with 2,100 staff. The company runs services in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Durham and Teesside.
