£20m development to create 101 Headingley homes

A historic site, based in Headingley, will be revitalised due to a £20m development from Stonebridge Homes.

The former Leeds Girls High School site on Victoria Road will be transformed into 101 new homes.

The Victoria Gardens development, located amongst landscaped grounds and surrounded by mature trees, will see a mix of townhouses and apartments built, which blend new build and sympathetic renovation.

Phase one, which will go on sale in August 2015, offers 20 four bedroom townhouses suitable for young families.

Darren Stubbs, managing director of Stonebridge Homes, said: “This development brings much needed family homes to Headingley. It will provide premium homes in a parkland setting, on the edge of the city centre. It is our most high profile development to date and we have taken real care to create a new community and be sympathetic to the local environment.”

The two house types offered in phase one will be the Buckingham and the Cambridge, which provide spacious living over three floors. Both have four double bedrooms and three bathrooms. The kitchen and master bedroom have large bay windows, and the open plan lounge/dining area has bi-fold doors, which open onto the garden.

The homes, which will be constructed with natural products including wooden windows and slate roofs, will also feature Villeroy and Boch bathrooms, Bosch appliances and Porcelanosa tiles.

Stonebridge Homes has seen strong demand in 2015 with off-plan sales up 50% on the same period last year. The company builds high specification house types that are designed for modern living and priced competitively in local markets.

Brewster Bye, the architects working on the scheme, Brewster Bye, worked with planning consultants Barton Willmore on the design and planning application.

Architect Nick Page from Brewster Bye said: “We were appointed by Stonebridge Homes to oversee the architectural delivery of this prestigious Headingley development which is situated in a sensitive, conservation area location just over a mile away from Leeds city centre.

“The approved application has taken into account the deliverability of the scheme, the site constraints, and the skilful refurbishment of both the original school building and the grade two listed Rose Court. Stonebridge Homes will be maintaining many key features of the original school building but the design also enables the respected developer to deliver a contemporary scheme which reflects the local vernacular and architectural language of this famous Leeds suburb.
