Turtle Bay will be opening in Huddersfield this October.

Caribbean restaurant brand invests £800k in Huddersfield opening

Turtle Bay, the caribbean restaurant and bar brand, is investing £800k to open its first restaurant in West Yorkshire, creating approximately 60 new jobs in the process.

The opening of a Turtle Bay restaurant in Huddersfield will follow its first move into Yorkshire with the opening of a restaurant in York city centre due at the end of this month.

Further openings are planned for Leeds and Harrogate later in the year.

Refurbishment is already underway at the 190-cover restaurant, which will see the site be transformed from a former unit that was occupied by The Cotton Factory bar into a state of the art kitchen, dining facility and a central cocktail bar, which will feature over 40 different rums.

The 8,634 sq ft site on the corner of King Street and Cross Church Street is due to open mid-October.

This announcement follows from the success of 18 other sites including Manchester, Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Bristol and Derby.

Ajith Jayawickrema, Turtle Bay Founder, said: “I am delighted to be opening our Huddersfield restaurant and am confident that our concept and offering will fit in well with the local student population and residents of Huddersfield and its surrounding areas.”

The menu will feature classics such as jerk chicken, Caribbean fish curry and goat burgers, along with more than 50 other traditional Caribbean delicacies. The restaurant will use traditional West Indian cooking techniques such as flame grill BBQ to achieve a truly authentic Caribbean taste.

Ajith added: “Turtle Bay is about great food and good times; it’s as simple as that. I think the restaurant will offer something new and exciting that will appeal to everyone.”
