Plans outlined for 950 new homes near Northwich

Developers Russell Homes and Glendale Estates have been granted outline planning permission for a new 950-home ‘urban village’ in Cheshire.

Expected to span the next 10 years, the project will see a mixture of two to five-bed houses constructed on a 120-acre site near Northwich, in addition to a village square comprising 2,500 sq ft of retail and commercial space.

The director of Russell Homes, Daniel Kershaw, said of the project: “Approval for this masterplan allows for the development of up to 950 new homes and the opening up of large areas of publically accessible green space.

“There is no doubt that there is consumer demand for homes in this location, with its proximity to Northwich, commuter routes and the semi-rural aspect.”

He added: “The scheme will also contribute toward the new homes pipeline required of Cheshire West and Chester authority and help support the growth of the local economy.”

Located to the south of Chapel Street in Wincham, part of the land is currently home to Witton Albion Football Club, as well as various storage, logistics and industrial businesses.

Speaking further about the development, Daniel said: “This is a 10-year plan and there is still much work to be done before we see a spade in the ground. We will be in discussion with the various different landowners about the timescale for development, and the site will require remediation prior to development.

“The next stage is to draw up detailed plans for the homes and commercial centre for the reserved matters applications, which will have to be determined before any work can begin.”
