Employment rate remains high in South East despite drop in workforce jobs
The employment rate in the South East is sitting at 76.6%, the third highest in the country, according to official figures released today.
In the latest Regional Labour Market report, the Official of National Statistics found that the national employment rate for people aged from 16 to 64 was at 73.4%, for the period April to June 2015. This is a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the same period last year.
Workforce jobs, which measures the number of filled jobs in the economy, saw a considerable decline in the South East, despite a national increase. Workforce jobs increased in 8 of the 12 regions of the UK between December 2014 and March 2015. However, this number decreased by 32,000 in the South East - the biggest drop in the UK.
London tied with the East of England for the highest average actual weekly hours worked in full-time jobs, both at 38.1 hours, a decrease of 1.1% for the capital.
For part-time jobs, the report shows the South East was the region with lowest average hours worked, at just 15.6 hours.
