Shortlist announced for £2bn Meridian Water scheme
Enfield Council has unveiled its shortlist of five “world-class” developers, including an international company, in the second stage of selecting the master developer for the Meridian Water Development.
Key players Berkeley Homes, Barrett & Segro, Taylor Wimpey & Dorchester, PCPD & Wilmott Dixon and Peabody have all made the council’s list.
The £2bn, 85-hectare scheme will be in a prime location adjacent to the waterside environment of the Lee Valley Regional Park, and only 20 minutes from Central London.
The appointed developer’s role will be to provide the 8,000 new homes, the full range of neighbourhood facilities and create 3,000 jobs by 2035, as well as drive the wider regeneration of north London.
The winner will be announced in early 2016.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration & Business Development, Cllr Alan Sitkin, said: “We need a world class partner to help us deliver a world class development. Meridian Water will transform our borough and play a significant role in driving the growth in North London as a whole.
“I am delighted to see the shortlist contains developers of international renown, and I am really excited about who our successful partner is going to be. They will be instrumental in helping us deliver this ambitious scheme to create thousands of homes and jobs in a superb waterfront environment”.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Housing Regeneration, Cllr Ahmet Oykener, said: “Meridian Water will provide thousands of much needed homes in a fantastic setting, and will play a significant role in tackling the shortage of family accommodation in our borough.
“This is an ambitious, innovative and exciting project which will make a huge difference to the lives of thousands of families in Enfield. It demonstrates the Council’s commitment to large scale regeneration schemes which provide a tangible benefit to both individuals and the wider community. This list of key developers gives me a real sense of pride in the project, and I look forward to working closely with the successful company.”
