Yorkshire’s employment rate steadily increases despite nationwide drop

The employment rate across Yorkshire has rose by 3,000 throughout the second quarter, according to official figures released today.

In the latest Regional Labour Market report, the Official of National Statistics revealed that between April and June there was a total of 174,000 people unemployed in the region.

Yorkshire’s unemployment is now 6.5%, meaning there was a 1.7% decrease during this period ending in June.

The report also reported that the national employment rate was 73.4% for people aged from 16 to 64 were in work (31.03 million), up from 72.8% for a year earlier but slightly lower than for January to March 2015.

For the second month in a row, unemployment has increased nationwide, bringing the total number of people out of work to 1.85 million. For the quarter, the jobless total went up by 25,000, which marks the first time there have been two consecutive rises for two years.
