Newcastle's Scott Logic reaps rewards of successful graduate scheme with new recruits

Software development consultancy Scott Logic has announced the addition of nineteen new appointments, including three former interns.

The new starters, 11 of whom will be based at company headquarters in Newcastle, are being welcomed to the firm, which delivers bespoke software solutions to global clients across a number of complex sectors.

The company heard from hundreds of applicants for this year’s available roles in development, testing and User Experience (UX) design. The successful candidates represent graduates from the UK’s leading Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) degrees; at universities including Dundee, Cambridge, Bristol, Glasgow, Durham, Sunderland, Newcastle, Belfast, Aberystwyth, Edinburgh and Brunel.

Recruitment Manager John Wright is particularly proud of the firm’s graduate programme, instrumental to the calibre of the company’s new recruits. He explained: “The graduate scheme is vital to our strategic growth as a company, and it’s great to see so many technically gifted people joining our consultancy.

“Week one is an important part of their orientation. As collaboration is a core business value we want them working together, as well as with their more experienced colleagues on building their technical learning.

“We also realise the importance of switching off so there’s plenty of social activities to allow our people to enjoy themselves and get to know each other socially.”

Jack Arnstein, 27, graduated last month from a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science at Newcastle University. He said: “When I was at uni, Scott Logic’s name came up from time to time among my fellow students and I thought of it as a prestigious company that really focuses on providing people with solutions.

“Compared to other software firms, here it’s more about the science and technology, and the service we provide is more personal so it’s really nice that a company like that is based in Newcastle.”

The latest cohort make up around a fifth of Scott Logic’s planned hires for 2015.

Rob Newsome, Newcastle’s Head of Development, added: “Since joining Scott Logic in 2008, I’ve seen many of our graduates go on to achieve great things, almost always staying with us and often moving to senior positions within our project teams.

“It’s always inspiring to welcome lots of new people and such a great deal of potential to the business. I really look forward to seeing what this year’s graduates achieve with us as they grow in confidence and experience.”

As well as plenty of work, including an introduction to a raft of software development tools and the challenge of creating their first application for the company, the graduates have a packed diary of activities to enjoy, including go-karting, pool, football and the annual ‘Greggs challenge’.
