Anderton Centre opens its doors to the public
Charity run outdoor activity centre the Anderton Centre is opening its doors to the public one weekend a month providing opportunities for youngsters and adults to try a variety of land and water based activities.
Over the weekend of 29th and 30th August families and friends will be able to try out their sailing skills in a two and a half hours taster session. All sessions will be undertaken under the watchful eye of fully qualified and skilled instructors. No previous sailing experience is necessary and the centre will provide all equipment and kit.
Sue Harris whose grandchildren recently took part in similar activities commented, “My grandchildren who had never sailed before had a fabulous time! It was great that they were allowed to go out by themselves and just go for it!”
The Anderton Centre is planning on offering these public event days throughout the year and their autumn event is a Bush Craft and Canoe Survival day on Sunday 4th October. There’s Bush Craft (fire-building and campfire cooking) in the morning and Open-Rafted Canoeing in the afternoon.
Keith Gillies, Chairman of the Anderton Centre commented, “Our aim is to encourage children, young people, families and community groups to benefit from the joy of the great outdoors. We have such a wide range of activities that there really is something for everybody and we’ve found that once someone has used our facilities they’ve thoroughly enjoyed it and come back for more.”
The centre has an in-house catering team with professional catering facilities and 20 ensuite bedrooms, sleeping a maximum of 70, so offers the perfect setting for a fun weekend or mid-week residential for schools, youth and community groups.
‘Adventurous Overnighters’ will start next year where fans of Rivington can stay at the weekend and take part in outdoor activities as well as enjoy the wonderful walks and bike rides in Lever Park, Rivington Pike and Anglezarke.
The Centre, based at Rivington is easily accessible from Manchester, Cheshire, Bolton, Wigan and Preston and boasts the largest reservoir in Lancashire at 2km long.
