Crawley 3G pitch ready for kick-off after £175k investment

A brand new 3G pitch in Broadfield will be ready for kick-off at the start of the Crawley Youth League season this September, due to Support In Sport (SIS) Pitches’ £175k project.

The 3G pitch and pavilion, opposite to the Checkatrade Stadium, opened in 2006 following a grant from the Football Foundation.

After becoming extremely popular within the local community, the pitch was due for a replacement, which kept in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines and to ensure ongoing compliance to the FA Standard Code of Rules and use of 3G football pitches.

The £175k scheme, undertaken by SIS, has seen the playing surface replaced with a 60mm FIFA 1 Star performance standard, the shock pad underneath repaired, the perimeter fence repaired, drainage replaced and associated tree works.

The 3G pitch will reopen on 1 September.

Councillor Chris Mullins, Cabinet member for Wellbeing, said: “The 3G pitch is a wonderful facility for Crawley. It has been really successful since it opened nine years ago with tens of thousands of children and adults playing football on the surface.

“I’m delighted we’ve made this investment to renew the surface and I’m sure the footballers who use the pitch from September will enjoy playing on it.”

The 3G pitch is managed by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Crawley Borough Council.
