Rugby World Cup to boost Newcastle economy by £20.7m
Newcastle Upon Tyne is set to pocket £20.7m from the forthcoming Rugby World Cup, which will be played in various stadia across the country.
The search engine for comparing flights, coach and rail travel options across Europe, has worked out that the UK tourism industry is expected to generate a £957m from the Rugby World Cup, which kicks off next month.
The city, which will play host to three games, is set to welcome £11.8m from accommodation, according to a report from GoEuro.
Newcastle is also set to earn £995k from inner city transport, £4.6m from food and and beverages and £2.9m from merchandise and other miscellaneous factors, the report shows.
London will be the biggest winner over all, with 17 matches earning the city £197m. Furthermore, transportation bosses will be happy with £15m extra income as spectators descend on the capital.
